Finding joy in the Everyday

Happy Thursday loves!

I cannot get over the wonderful and thoughtful responses I got on my blog yesterday, seriously it floors me everyday that I have people even remotely interested in my life. I appreciate every single response and while I’m cutting back on fanatically replying to every comment, I will definitely be responding to you all on that one. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!

Last night, despite having to a long to do list, Rob and I ventured to Davis for Farmers Market after work (I think Rob’s still trying to cheer me up from my monthly slump because I know farmers markets aren’t his favorite thing in the world). I attended UC Davis for my undergrad and every time I go back to visit, my heart hurts a little. Davis is the only other “city” I’ve ever lived in besides Sacramento/Elk Grove and it’s full of SO many wonderful memories of college. And Farmers Market was one of my FAVORITE things about living in Davis. I used to stop by for my Market Salad after class every Wednesday so Rhonda, the woman who worked there gave me her cell phone number and I would call her when I was on my way so that she would make sure to set aside my salad for me!

The Market Salad from Monticello Bistro = BEST SALAD EVER.

Wednesdays are Picnic in the Park nights, lots to do for families, see all those bounce houses for kids in the back?

DIY Giftbags

After grabbing a few brews with our friend Chris, we ventured home to work on my latest project: Gift bags for my Mom. My Mom is a principal and for staff appreciation, I hand-make bags for her to give her staff. I didn’t plan on posting about it on the blog (not really sure why I wouldn’t but that’s why the picture quality is AWESOME sucky) so I didn’t take process pictures but I’m happy with how they turned out!

I started with stamping the bags, then painting a design using the stamp as a frame. The black paint is actually chalkboard paint written on with chalk marker. I free handed all the names and designs. I love the sheen of chalkboard paint, it really makes black pop. I dressed up the tags with some washi tape and used a stamp to say Thank You. There’s a million more things I wanted to do but with a few hours, making 11 bags that was all I managed before climbing into bed at midnight.

Pardon the blurry picture. And clearly I had Target on my mind last night 😉

Despite being tired, I really do love crafting and making an idea come to life. Rob even stayed to help me with the stamping and although I think that relinquishes most of his man card, I love him for it! ❤

I’m SO excited tomorrow is Friday because that means the weekend is almost here!

Happy Thursday!

They’d give US a house?

So Rob and I have been going back and forth about something for a long time.

Home Ownership.

We’re been together for almost 7 years (I’m working on our love story, it’s coming soon I promise!) and we’re pretty sure spending our lives together is the direction it’s headed (Rob feel free to pipe in if I’m speaking incorrectly for you 😉 ). But we’ve been waiting on a wedding until we felt more confident in our finances. Both of us know that we’re not in for a cheap wedding (and yes, Rob hasn’t even popped the question yet) plus we’ve been working full time for less than 2 years so that should answer the collective question of “Why haven’t you just gotten married already?!”

The wrench in the plan is that the housing market in Sacramento is SO good right now. For the last year, family members have been dropping hints about what a good time it is to buy and last summer, Rob and I even contacted a realtor. But I was the one to pull back the reins and let him know that I wasn’t comfortable signing on the dotted line, without tying the knot. Call me old fashioned but I’m a little anxious about signing ANY dotted lines. At the end of the day, I’m a romantic but I’m also a realist and heaven forbid Rob realizes I’m a complete psycho little too crazy, I wouldn’t want to complicate his quick break. So we put home buying on pause August of last year.

Well, the housing market got even better (Or I guess worse, if you’re selling). This summer, we’ve been seeing good starter homes with pools going for as little at $190,000 (in California, GASP), which we’re confident we qualify for. But I can’t help but feel overwhelmed about all of these crucial time points in life, potentially colliding. And we’re just not that interested in renting, because for what you pay in rent these days, you can own. Is it too old fashioned that I want us engaged before buying a house, even if the market is unbelievable? Is it possible to afford a wedding and buy a new house in the same time period? How does a new marriage survive both wedding planning and escrow? And if we were to get a house and finally decide to get married, could we learn to scale back our lives enough to make it all work? As if I needed to complicate things any further, what happens if I go to grad school next fall?

It just seems like we’re at odds to “having it all”. When does everything just fall into place? Regardless, I know I’m the luckiest girl in the world to have him by my side but I can’t help wanting it all! Feel free to share thoughts, suggestions or success stories of others who have been in our position! 🙂

At the end of the day, this is what matters. Etsy

Forgive me Father…

A mere 14 days into No-fry-August, I failed. I’ve been having a rough couple of days emotionally (for virtually no reason at all, minus my completely-legitimate time of the month excuse) so Rob caved and snuck me some fries because he couldn’t take my spiraling depression. Yes, my boyfriend fed my emotions with junk food. And God bless his heart for that, he even insisted he take the fall for it. But I’ll deal with my emotional eating on another day, when my hormone levels aren’t bouncing off the walls. Someday I will conquer no-fry month, *shakes fist* somedayyyy.

Blog Angels Halfway point

I signed up for Blog Angels with Craftbiotic and The Dreamy Meadow because I loved the idea of helping out another blogger anonymously and to be honest, I want to be doing way more! I’ve been taking a few steps back on my own blog so I haven’t been as active reading and commenting on blogs as much as I’ve wanted to. I’ve posted about her blog in multiple social outlets and I’ve even been sending her giveaway link out in some of my emails. The blogger I was picked to “angel” is so lovely and I want to help her more, I’m just afraid our audiences might be a little too different and I might not be helping enough! I like to think I’m making something of a difference but I’m dedicating the last half of the month to doing more! Here’s to the rest of the month, helping a fellow blogger out. 🙂

Happy Hump Day loves!

Long time no see, Weekend.

Hallelujah the weekend is here!

This week has felt unbelievably long hasn’t it? Well I decided I wanted to spend my Friday replying to your comments (because I especially appreciated those of you who commented on yesterday’s entry!) so I’m going to keep it short and sweet: linking up with Friday Favesies with my plans for tonight!

One of my Friday Favesies is a good cold drink! Tonight I’m getting together with an old friend, Angela for a girls night! My family doesn’t drink so the fact I indulge in a beverage once a week (these days, college was a different time haha), makes me the family “Lush” apparently. Here’s proof that my parents think I’m an alchy:

Thanks for that gem Mom.

Ah parent humor, the joys of living at home at in my early 20s. On the real, my parents ROCK. They are totally cool with me doing as I please, they just love to tease me about drinking.

Feel free to still leave comments yesterday’s blog, I still want to get to know you!

What do you have planned this weekend??

Have a great weekend ya’ll!

The Sacramento Color Run

Happy Monday everyone!

So against my better judgement, I decided to run a 5K this weekend on a diet consisting of french fries with absolutely no preliminary running/training. To say I’m a runner is like saying that lead weights can fly. But lemme tell ya, I love a good 5K and a run that entails colored powder thrown at you while you run? I’m in.

Despite my vehement protests light suggestions that we should walk this 5K instead of run, we got overeager and ran the first (eh let’s be generous), 1/5 of the race. After receiving our first burst of color, we all mutually looked at each other and decided a brisk power walk would suffice. It was a beautifully scenic 5K and overall tons of fun.

But every 15 minutes at the finish line, there was a Color Festival where everyone opens up the color packets they were given and throws it up in the air. The Color Festival was the most INCREDIBLE part. I can’t even explain how beautiful it was, colors flying everywhere and everyone dancing and celebrating. We hung out for 2 rounds of Color Festival and by the end, I resembled a semi-purple incredible hulk, hence the lack of pictures of myself at the end (you’re lucky I even gave you the picture of me as the purple-people-eater above!). Lol much to my dismay, I didn’t get the “cute” color photos I hoped for but it was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever done. If the Color Run is headed your way, don’t hesitate to sign up quick, it’s worth it!

We went to an amazing brunch spot that I’ll be featuring for Good Eats sometime soon too!

Unfortunately that mere 1/5 of 3 miles I ran + lack of stretching, training, general fitness means I was pretty sore following the run. I contemplated lying to you so you could imagine me as a 5K goddess, barely panting and victorious at the end. But I’m as far from that as you can get right now and I’m pretty a little embarrassed that running so little got my body crying out that way. I’m putting this out there because I’m ready to make a change and No-French-Fry August is part of that. I’m ready to hold myself accountable for the way I eat and treat my body. I’m looking to make a plan for that so stay tuned!

Happy Birthday Eva!!

Lastly, I want to wish one of my best friends a HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Long before Simply Evani was born, Eva was one of 3 friends/readers who subscribed to my lowly blog. Not only was she one of the greatest roommates I’ve ever had but she is genuinely one of the most caring individuals I know. I love her with all my heart! Can’t wait to hit up Seattle and visit Chid!

How was your weekend? Do you have a favorite 5K?

Have a great week everyone!

Lazy Monday

Happy Monday!

So my life is in complete disarray since getting back from Utah yesterday afternoon. My room looks like a war zone, my entire closet is in the laundry pile and I have a million and one things to do to get back on schedule! The 10 hour drive was totally manageable (because my Dad is an awesome driver) but leaving at 5:00 am left me utterly exhausted so needless to say, sleep won over blogging last night. I’m excited to share my photos from Utah though so I promise posts are coming!

Until I can get my life back together again, here are some posts I think are pretty rad:

I know this is cheating but the lovely Nicole had me over at Treasure Tromp to share some vacation Pinspiration! Thanks Nicole 🙂

When am I not completely amazed at what they have at A Pair & A Spare?
