Friday Letters: What’s the big box behind my TV?

Happy Friday everyone!

I know I didn’t “create” much on the blog this week in the midst of my deathly illness and my birthday so I apologize there wasn’t more content as opposed to me babbling on about my life. Thank you for stickin’ around, I promise next week I’ll feature a recipe or two! For now, Friday letters! Linking up with Ashley.

Dear Google+, You became INSTANTLY cooler last night when I had my first Google hangout with my girlfriends. The google effects were hiiiiilarious. Who doesn’t want to have a conversation wearing a virtual moustache, pirate hat and monocle? Who knew Google + was useful for something?!

Dear iPhone 5, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Got your tracking e-mail and you’re in Mather, CA! I’m praying that means you will be on my doorstep by tonight! (I know, I’m late to the party. Not my fault cough *SPRINT*)

Story of my life

Dear Grey’s Anatomy fans, I know I brought this upon myself but Rob and I are still in Season 8. I’ve got the DVR set so we can catch up in real time soon! I love you all so dearly but it forces me to stay off twitter completely on Thursday night when you’re all screaming “OMGGGGGG ______ is gone!” Lol. I know I have no one to blame but myself.

Dear Disneyland, You and I have SUCH a special relationship and I love you with all my heart. But when our season passes are over, I’ve decided Rob and I can’t renew. I’m going to probably shed a tear or two about that in May but it’s time for Rob and I to see more of the world. I made it one of my 25 before 25 goals that we would travel internationally and we can’t save for that if we keep going to LA. So we’re going to go Disneyland-CRAZY until May 2013 but after that, we’re going to have to take a break. I want some pizza in Italy.

Dear Technology,

Thank you Rob for ushering me in the future.

Dear Evani (yes, talking to myself now), I’m SO proud that you didn’t cry when you got your TB test placement this morning. Clearly being 24 means you’re an adult now. Way to go kiddo.

And just out of curiosity, take a quick second and vote in this poll PLEASEEEEE! 🙂

What are you weekend plans?! I don’t really have any and I’m SUPER excited for that! New TV + Netflix + Football + Bed!

Have a great weekend ya’ll!

Favorites Friday: Must See TV

Since fall also marks the beginning of an enormously impacted TV schedule, I figured I would review a few new shows I’ve caught. And in case you decide that statement makes you want to stop reading, I promise one of them isn’t Jersey Shore.

Favorites Friday: Must See TV

New Girl

1. New Girl: On Fox at 9:00 pm , following Glee on Tuesday nights is a new show starring Zoey Deschanel. While Deschanel does everything in her power to create the MOST awkward character ever known to man (which some with find endearing while others find infuriating), her male counterparts play a wonderful role of the man perspective. Surprisingly, it’s a crowd pleasure for both Rob (manly man, Sons of Anarchy lover) and I (Glee loving romantic). Best feature: The Douchebag jar

Workaholics

2. Workaholics – One of my new favorite shows is on Comedy Central, Tuesdays at 10:30 pm. Workaholics is comedic genuis, half lewd inappropriate jokes and half intensely hilarious characters put in ridiculous situations. While it is on its 2nd season, I’m on a personal mission to increase its viewership because the world would be a sad sad place without it. I wouldn’t recommend it for younger audiences because the content, language and constant state of being high makes the characters hard to explain  Best feature: A pretentious character named “Ders” short for “Anders” (prounounced Ahn-ders).

2 Broke Girls

3. 2 Broke Girls – Mondays 8:30 on CBS is a new comedy starring Kat Dennings as a sarcastic, tough girl in New York. Being a fan of Dennings since Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist, I was pleased to find her playing nearly the exact same character. The show features an ex-billionare’s daughter who works with Dennings in a disgusting diner, the epitome of Valley Girl meets New York hoodrat. Overall, a funny show and worth the watch. Best Feature: Dennings sarcasm paired with her TV-boyfriend’s rock hard abs.

4. Up all Night- Wednesdays at 10:00 pm on NBC is a quirky comedy starring Christina Applegate and Will Arnett. If you’re a fan of Will Arnett’s humor, then this show is completely for you. It follows working mom, Christina Applegate (who works for  an Oprah-esque character played by Maya Rudolph) and stay at home dad, Will Arnett. It’s oddly refreshing to see a TV show of 2 parents who have absolutely no clue what they’re doing (think the exact OPPOSITE of 7th Heaven parents) and it’s sure to make you chuckle a few times. Best Feature: Maya Rudolph as “Oprah”

5. Lastly a short list of the shows that aren’t new but I can’t live without: Modern Family, Glee, Gossip Girl, Suits and Sons of Anarchy (Rob’s fav show).

Any shows you recommend?

Happy Friday readers!!!

Goodbye Michael

Today is a sad day. Michael Scott (aka Steve Carell) will be leaving The Office today. I know that not everyone is an Office fan, and if I’m going to be honest I only jumped the bandwagon as of last season but now it feels like my best friend is moving out of state. For people who don’t know the Office, all the old seasons are on Netflix, get on it!

The Office without Michael Scott is comparable to Seinfeld without Jerry Seinfeld. Steve Carell is the heart of The Office, he is the annoying yet heartwarming boss of the paper company (Dunder Mifflin) that the show films. For fans of The Office, there have been moments when we’d like nothing more to throw Michael out a moving car, but also moments where you wish you could reach out and give him a hug (creepy? a little). I think the most endearing thing about his character was the fact he’s such a screw-up but with the nicest intentions at heart. Steve Carell’s career while on The Office has included notable movies such as Evan Almighty and Dan in Real Life but I think his true comedic genius lies in Michael Scott. He leaves the cast this season to pursue bigger fish, which I think he will undoubtedly do. But I also think he will leave a gaping hole in Dunder Mifflin and the remaining cast of The Office. I’m not one of the naysayers that think the show won’t survive without him, I just think it’ll take a very special character to fill the absence of Steve Carell and Michael Scott.

Counting down my top 5 favorite Michael Scott Moments:

5. Season 3: Prison Mike

Dwight: Prison Mike? What’s the very, very worst thing about prison?
Angela Martin: Don’t encourage him.
Michael : [as Prison Mike] The worst thing about prison was the – was the dementors. They were flying all over the place and they were scary and then they’d come down and they suck the soul out of your body, and it hurt!
Karen
: Dementors, like in Harry Potter?
Michael: No, not Harry Potter. There are no movies in prison!

4 . Season 2: Episode 11: Booze Cruise, when Michael dances and when he says “BFD”  to Jim

Michael: “Sometimes you have to take a break from being the kind of boss that’s always trying to teach people things. Sometimes you just have to be the boss of dancing.”

Jim: She’s engaged
Michael: Pfft. BFD. Engaged aint married.
Jim: Huh?
Michael: Never, ever, ever give up.

3. Season 2: Episode 12: When Michael burned his foot on a George Foreman Grill.

I mean this quote explains it all:

Michael: “I enjoy having breakfast in bed. I like waking up to the smell of bacon, sue me. And since, I don’t have a butler, I have to do it myself. So … most nights before I go to bed, I will lay six strips of bacon out on my George Foreman grill. Then I go to sleep. When I wake up, I plug in the grill. I go back to sleep again. Then, I wake up, to the smell of crackling bacon. It is delicious, it’s good for me, it’s the perfect way to start the day. Today, I got up, I stepped onto the grill, and it clamped down on my foot, that’s it. I don’t see what’s so hard to believe about that.”

2. Season 7, Episode 19: The Proposal

1. My Favorite Moment ever: Season 7, Season of Love Office style

So here’s to Steve Carell on a wonderful run as Michael Scott, the World’s Best Boss!
